1.               PURPOSE

 

The intent of this directive is to establish procedures in the proper manner in which the “Alarm Response Notice” is to be completed and distributed.

 

2.               POLICY

 

It is the policy of Zone Six to utilize the “Alarm Response Notice” on ALL alarm calls dispatched to uniform patrol units.

 

3.               RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1              It is the responsibility of the Unit Commander to ensure compliance with this Command Memorandum.  Each watch commander will monitor this policy and ensure that each officer who investigates an alarm call will properly complete the “Alarm Response Notice” and follow distribution procedures.

 

4.               ACTION

 

43.1            Completion of the “Alarm Response Notice”

 

1.    The uniform Officer, upon completing his/her investigation of an alarm call; will check one or more of the boxes at the top portion of the form that best describes the actions taken by the officer responding to the alarm call.
 

2.    The uniform officer will list their name, unit number, report number (if applicable) dates and time on the “Alarm Response Notice”.
 

3.    If the uniform officer finds that additional information needs to be mentioned to the homeowner/business owner, then they should write that information on the back of the white copy of the “Alarm Response Notice”.
 

4.    If an arrest is made on the property, which requires the victim/owner/manager of property to appear in court, then the reporting officer should complete a subpoena and attach it to the rear of the white copy of the “Alarm Response Notice”.

 

4.2              Distribution of the “Alarm Response Notice”

 

1.    The watch commander, or their designee, will ensure the proper completion and distribution of the “Alarm Response Notice” by their subordinate officers.
 

2.    Each officer will complete the “Alarm Response Notice” after investing any alarm call to which they are primarily dispatched.
 

3.    After the “Alarm Response Notice” has been completed, each officer will place a copy (white) of the notice in a specially designed plastic bag and hang the plastic bag on a doorknob, or similar devise, near the primary point of entry of the residence or business location, which the alarm call had originated.
 

4.    The investigating officer will take the bottom copy (yellow) and attach it to his/her activity sheet, which will be forwarded to his/her supervisor upon completion of their watch assignment.

 

4.3              Storage of the “Alarm Response Notice”

 

1.    The “Alarm Response Notice” form and specially designed plastic bag will be stored in the radio room.
 

2.    These forms and plastic bags will be made readily available to all uniform officers
