Property Control Unit Uniform

1.               PURPOSE

 

To establish a procedure for the wearing of the Property Control Unit (PCU) uniform.

 

2.               POLICY

 

The Property Control Unit employees will dress to reflect the professionalism of the Police Department in accordance with APD.SOP.2130 Dress Code - Uniforms

 

3.               RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1              The Property Control Unit commander will implement this directive in the unit.

 

3.2              The Property Control Unit supervisors will ensure that this Command Memorandum is complied with at all times.

 

3.2.1           All Property Control Unit employees will comply with this Command Memorandum.

 

4.               ACTION

 

4.1              The Property Control Unit sworn employees will wear the PCU or Department Class A uniform at all times while on duty.  The Division, Section, or PCU commander must approve any deviation from this directive in writing.

 

4.2              All PCU employees will carry the city-issued 2-way portable radio, a pager, or a cellular telephone.  The 2-way portable radio will be turned on and set to ASD-1, unless directed to turn to and monitor another radio talk group or frequency.

 

4.3              Uniform for Sworn / Non Sworn Employees

 

Sworn employees will wear the Class A or Class A Dress Uniform in accordance with APD.SOP.2130 "Dress Code – Uniforms".  Non-sworn employees will transition to the uniforms outlined in sections 4.3.1.2 and 4.3.2.2 by January 1, 2007.  The navy blue pants and shirt will be optional until December 31, 2006.

 

1.    Summer Uniform – Sworn (Instead of Class A: as authorized by the PCU Commander)

 

a.    Black long/short sleeve shirt

b.    Black leather belt

c.    Black tactical belt (On approval of the PCU Commander)

d.    Dark gray BDU type pants

e.    Tan or khaki work pants (plain or pleated front, not BDU type)

f.     Black calf length socks

g.    Black leather walking or uniform shoes

i      APD baseball cap (optional - on approval of the PCU Commander)

 

2.    Summer Uniform – Non-Sworn

 

a.    Black long/short sleeve shirt

b.    Black leather belt

c.    Dark gray BDU type pants

d.    Dark gray work pants (plain or pleated front, not BDU type)

e.    Navy blue jumpsuit

f.     Black calf length socks

g.    Black leather walking or uniform shoes

h.    APD baseball cap (optional - on approval of the PCU Commander)

 

3.    Winter Uniform – Sworn (Instead of Class A: as authorized by the PCU Commander)

 

a.    Black long/short sleeve shirt

b.    Black leather belt

c.    Black tactical belt (On approval of the PCU Commander)

d.    Dark gray BDU type pants

e.    Tan or khaki work pants (plain or pleated front, not BDU type)

f.     Black calf length socks

g.    Black leather walking or uniform shoes

4.    Winter Uniform – Non-Sworn

 

a.    Black long/short sleeve shirt

d.    Dark gray work pants (plain or pleated front, not BDU type)

e.    Navy blue jumpsuit

f.     Black calf length socks

g.    Black leather walking or uniform shoes

h.    Black knit cap or APD baseball cap (optional - on approval of the PCU Commander)

i.     Black leather gloves (optional)

j.     Black coaching jacket

 

4.3.3           The employee assigned as the Property Armorer may wear the blue jumpsuit as described in APD.SOP.2130 "Dress Code – Uniforms" for Property Management Technicians with the APD patches affixed to both sleeves and the cloth embroidered badge affixed over the left chest pocket area.

 

4.3.4           Fingernails, Jewelry, Hair, Handbags, Makeup, and Raingear will be worn in compliance with APD.SOP.2130 “Dress Code – Uniforms”.

 

4.3.5           PCU sworn employees must be armed at all times while on duty, in accordance with APD.SOP.3040 Weapons and APD.SOP.2130 Dress Code - Uniforms.
 

4.4              Uniform for Court Appearance

 

4.4.1           Whenever a PCU sworn employee must appear in any court to testify, he or she will wear the
Class A or Class A dress uniform or appropriate business attire.  Non-sworn employees will wear their approved uniform or business attire.

 

5.               DEFINITIONS

 

5.1              Jacket: Black-coaching jacket with the Department seal or any jacket that is in compliance with APD.SOP.2130 "Dress Code – Uniforms", Sections 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.

 

5.2              Black Property Control Unit Polo Type Shirt: Black short/long sleeve Polo or golf type shirt with the APD logo above the left chest pocket area.  Under the logo the following will appear in gold lettering:

 

                  “Property Control Unit”

 

5.2.1           The rank, initials, and last name of the employee shall be monogrammed on the right chest pocket area in gold lettering for sworn employees.  Non-sworn employees with the job classification of “Property Management Technician” shall have the letters PMT followed by their initials and last name. Non-sworn employees with the job classification of “Senior Property Management Technician” shall have their initials and last name with the lettering Senior PMT underneath.

 

5.3              Shoes: Black uniform shoes that comply with APD.SOP.2130 "Dress Code - Uniforms" with the exception of the riding boot.

 

5.4              Boots: Black lace up boots that comply with APD.SOP.2130 "Dress Code - Uniforms" with the exception of the riding boot.
