1.               PURPOSE

The intent of this directive is to establish a process by which candidates are selected for assignment, both permanent and temporary, to the Field Inspections Section.

2.               POLICY

The Field Inspections Section (FIS) will utilize the process described herein to fairly and equitably select individuals for assignment to the section.

3.               RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1              The FIS Commander will ensure all section supervisors are familiar with and adhere to the selection procedure listed herein.  The commander will also identify the need to either fill available vacancies or to create positions within the section.

3.2              FIS Unit supervisors and all section members will become familiar with the policy stated in this command memorandum and will comply with this directive.

3.3              Administrative Support Personnel will create a daily bulletin item and will submit it to the appropriate personnel for publication.

4.               ACTION

4.1              Selection Process

4.1.1           When the FIS Commander determines a vacancy (s), either permanent or temporary, exists within the Section, he/she will instruct administrative support personnel to create an item for the Daily Bulletin to solicit applicants for the vacant positions.  Said item should run in the daily bulletin for at least 2 weeks, thus giving as many employees as possible the opportunity to consider the position.

4.1.2           The Bulletin item will include requirements for consideration for vacant positions.  These requirements include:

1.    Preferably have at least three (3) years of sworn field experience;

2.    Possess an exemplary work history;

3.    Be self-motivated;

4.    Be willing to work in an independent setting;

5.    Have a flexible work schedule.

4.1.3           The Daily Bulletin item will also direct candidates to schedule interviews through the FIS office.  Applicants will be scheduled for interviews with the FIS commander, supervisors, and current, permanent staff members.

4.1.4           Applicants will be ranked in order of preference and candidates will be selected based on these rankings.
