1.               PURPOSE

To establish Strike Team which concentrate on high Part 1 crime areas within Zone Six.

2.               POLICY

It is the policy of Zone Six of the Atlanta Police Department to use a team of officers within the zone to concentrate on established patterns of high crime Part 1 incidents.

3.               RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1              Zone Six Commander may establish a Strike Team.  Zone Six Commander will identify particular problem areas for the teams to concentrate on.

3.2              Assistant Zone Commander will monitor the Strike Team’s actions and impact on the problem areas identified.

3.3              Watch Commander and Crime Analysis will identify problem areas to be addressed by the Strike Team and pass them on to the Zone Commander for action.

3.4              Strike Team supervisor will monitor the Strike Team’s performance and report regularly to the Zone Commander on the impact of the team in the zone.

4.               ACTION

4.1              Strike Team will wear either plain clothes or uniforms (at the Assistant Zone Commander’s discretion) and will concentrate on problem areas identified by the Assistant Zone Commander, Zone Watch Commander, Community Group meetings and Crime Analysts.

4.2              Strike Team will focus on street level crimes, such as pedestrian robberies and assaults, vehicle larcenies, burglaries, flimflams, and problems of order maintenance.  The Strike Team will use Quality of Life cases whenever possible to help decrease the amount of street level crime.

4.3              Strike Team will patrol areas identified as having a high number of crime incidents and question suspicious persons in these areas.

4.4              Strike Team members will also assist victims in obtaining arrest warrants.

4.5              The Strike Team supervisor will work closely with the Zone Crime Analysts to chart crime trends and identify strategies to combat high crime incidents in the zones.

4.6              The Strike Team supervisor will act as a liaison between the zones and criminal investigations units in an attempt to coordinate efforts against existing crimes.

4.7              Strike Team supervisor will attend community meetings.
