The intent of this directive is to establish extra job guidelines involving off duty funeral escorts by Special Operations Section (SOS) personnel.
It is the policy of the Atlanta Police Department that sworn personnel may work approved extra jobs for funeral escorts utilizing personally owned motorcycles.
3.1 The SOS commander is responsible
for implementing this directive. 3.2 SOS Unit commanders will implement
this directive within their respective commands and ensure compliance. 3.3 Supervisors will ensure that their
employees understand and comply with this directive. They will take
immediate action when observing a violation of this directive. 3.4 Employees will adhere to this directive.
4.1 The use of City owned vehicles,
including motorcycles, for extra jobs involving funeral escorts is strictly
prohibited. 4.2 Officers must have an approved
extra job request prior to providing escort services for a funeral. 4.3 Personnel conducting approved
funeral escorts will comply with Georgia Code 40-6-76 governing funeral
escorts and all applicable laws and ordinances. 4.4 Privately owned escort motorcycles are not authorized emergency vehicles and will not be operated as such.
