The intent of this directive is to ensure that stolen vehicle recoveries are investigated thoroughly in an effort to solve these crimes.
It shall be the policy of the Atlanta Police Department’s Field Operations Division to utilize sound preliminary investigative techniques in ensuring that auto theft suspects are identified and apprehended.
3.1 Zone/section commanders will ensure that personnel under their respective commands adhere to this policy.
4.1 Watch commanders shall compile a listing of locations where auto thefts and auto theft recoveries are likely. This listing shall be readily available for review by all officers assigned to the zone/section.
4.2 A supervisor shall respond to all locations where stolen vehicles are recovered and ensure that an effort is made to lift latent fingerprints from the vehicle.
