1.               PURPOSE

 

This order revises and reissues written directives in preparation for accreditation. 

 

2.               POLICY

 

The Atlanta Police Department will keep its written directives up to date and promptly notify affected employees.

 

3.               RESPONSIBILITIES

 

                  Bureau, division, and section commanders will implement these changes in their commands, making sure that affected employees are notified.

4.1              Updated Directives

 

4.1.1           APD.SOP.2020 Disciplinary Process

 

1.    Section 4.2.2. paragraph 1 was edited to include the following for CALEA standards:

       "...The Chief of Police or the OPS commander can require an employee to be

       photographed, to participate in a line-up, and/or to submit financial disclosure

       statements when doing so is directly related and essential to that particular internal

       affairs investigation which is being conducted by the Department."

 

2.    Section 4.3.5 paragraph 3, the table was edited to reclasify the category for

       Truthfulness.  Truthfulness was changed from a Category B-D to a category D

       Dismissal violation.

4.1.2           APD.SOP.3085 Missing Persons

 

1.    The Policy section was edited as follows for CALEA standards: "The Atlanta Police

       Department will investigate all reports of missing persons thoroughly, to include the

       careful recording and investigation of the factual circumstances surrounding the

       disappearance, and give particular attention in cases involving: missing children;

       persons who may be mentally and/or physically impaired; persons who are

       incapable of caring for themselves; and/or children or adults who are either

       unidentified or unidentifiable to determine if they are classified as missing.

 

4.1.2           APD.SOP.2030 Awards

 

1.    The following awards were deleted: Sworn Employee of the Month, Non-sworn

       employee of the Month, Sworn Employee of the Quarter and Non-sworn employee

       of the Quarter.

 

2.    The following awards were added: Department Commendation, Division

       Commendation, Section Commendation and Purple Heart.
