Abandoned Vehicles in the Airport’s Revenue Generating Lots

1.                PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this Section Command Memorandum is to establish a procedure for the Atlanta Police Airport Section to remove abandoned vehicles from the Airport's Revenue Generating Lots.

 

2.                POLICY

 

The Atlanta Police Airport Section will remove abandoned vehicles from revenue generating lots.

 

3.                RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1              It is the responsibility of Watch Supervisors to insure that this Section  

                  Command memorandum is strictly adhered to.

 

4.                ACTION

 

4.1              Weekly, the Department of Aviation will submit to the Airport Police Section Commander a list of vehicles that have been parked in any of the airports revenue generating parking areas in excess of (30) thirty days.

 

4.2              The police Section Commander will assign the abandon vehicle list to the Watch Commander.

 

4.3              The Watch Commander will assign officers to check the abandon vehicles.

 

4.4              The officers will check vehicle license plate and/or vehicle identification number (VIN) on ACIC to verify if the vehicle is stolen.  If the vehicle is not stolen, the officer will place a (5) day sticker on the abandon vehicles.

 

4.5              If the vehicle is unlocked and not stolen, the officer will inventory the contents for safekeeping, and turn contents into the Atlanta Police Department Property Section before the end his or her tour of duty. The officer will lock the vehicle and write an incident report that documents his or her actions.

 

4.6              At the end of the five-day period the abandon vehicles will be impounded utilizing the city contract wrecker.
