Establish a protocol for the notification and procurement of emergency external services.
The Atlanta Police Communications Section will procure emergency and necessary external services for the Department.
3.1 The Communications Dispatchers and the 911 Call Takers will notify a Communications Supervisor of all calls that require emergency external services.
3.2 The Communications Supervisors will monitor the incoming 911 calls and the activity of the police zones for any calls that require emergency external services.
3.3 The Communications Supervisors will initiate the request for emergency external services with the use of the Emergency Services Directory, located on the supervisor’s podium. (CALEA 5th ed. standard 81.2.5 f)
4.1 The Communications Supervisors will gather all information available on any major, critical, or newsworthy event.
4.2 The Communications Supervisors will determine when to initiate the procuring of emergency and necessary external services to the department.
4.3 The Communications Supervisors will use the Emergency Services Directory to contact the necessary external emergency services and inform the contact person of the emergency, the location of the emergency, the services requested, and obtain the estimated time of arrival to the emergency by the agency. (CALEA 5th ed. standard 81.2.5 f)
4.4 The Dispatcher will advise the supervisor at the scene of the emergency when external services are contacted and when they can be expected to arrive on the scene of the emergency. (CALEA 5th ed. standard 81.2.5 f)
5.1 Emergency and necessary external services: include but are not limited to the following:
1. Atlanta Housing Authority
2. A T & T Phone Company
3. U. S. Customs Service
4. Federal Aviation Administration
5. Federal Bureau of Investigation
6. Foreign Consulates
7. Fulton County Animal Control
8. Fulton County Sherriff’s Department
9. Georgia Department of Transportation
10. Georgia Department of Natural Resources
11. Georgia Power Company
12. Internal Revenue Service
13. MARTA
14. Norfolk Southern Company
