Restrictions to Extra Jobs Worked

1.               PURPOSE

 

To establish guidelines that will allow employees assigned to the Office of Professional Standards to engage in outside employment.  For the purposes of this document outside employment is known as “Extra Jobs”.

 

2.               POLICY

 

The Office of Professional Standards will permit employees to work approved extra jobs that do not present a conflict of interest; do not violate any rules, regulations or procedures; and do not impair the employee’s job performance.  Employees violating these policies and procedures may have the privilege of working extra jobs revoked by the Chief of Police, and/or transferred from the Office of Professional Standards, in addition to any other sanction imposed by the disciplinary process.

 

3.               RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1              The section and unit commanders are responsible for the full implementation of this policy within their respective commands.

 

3.2              Supervisors will monitor subordinates to ensure conformity to this policy.

 

3.3              All employees are responsible for filing appropriate paperwork, obtaining permits, avoiding any conflict of interest or appearance thereof, and ensuring that outside employment does not interfere with their responsibilities to the Section.

 

4.               ACTION

 

4.1              Restrictions on Duties and Types of Employment

 

4.1.1           All employees assigned to the Office of Professional Standards will be prohibited from coordinating or physically working any extra jobs for any night club or in the parking lot or other area immediately surrounding or associated with such businesses.

 

 

5.               DEFINITIONS

 

Night Club means an establishment having a capacity of at least 100 persons per the City of Atlanta Fire Code, with all booths and tables unobstructed and open to view, dispensing alcoholic beverages and in which music, dancing or entertainment is conducted.  All such establishments shall be equipped with air conditioning.  The principal business of a nightclub shall be entertaining, and the serving of alcoholic beverages shall be incidental thereto. (As defined by Atlanta City Ordinance Section 10.1)
