Airport Perimeter Fencing Gate Keys

1.                PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this section command memorandum is to establish a procedure for the issuance, maintenance, inventory, and utilization of Airport Perimeter Fencing Gate keys.

 

2.                POLICY

 

It is the policy, of the Atlanta Police Department Field Operations Division’s Airport Police Section, that all avenues of entrance on the airfield are accessible to authorized emergency personnel during catastrophic events. 

 

3.                RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1              It is the responsibility of the watch commander to ensure that the procedures established in this section command memorandum are adhered to.

 

3.2              It is the responsibility of the airport specialized unit to maintain an inventory of all airport perimeter fencing gate keys, which are issued to the section by the Department of Aviation Security.

 

3.3              It is the responsibility of any employee opening a gate to ensure that the gate is secure while open and will remain at the gate until secured, relocked, or when he/she is relieved at the direction of a police supervisor.

 

4.                ACTION

 

4.1              All police supervisors and others designated by the Airport Section Commander will be issued an airport perimeter fencing gate key.

 

4.2              Airport perimeter fencing gate keys are identified by a serial number stamped on its shaft and personnel will sign for the key.

 

4.3              Personnel will immediately report to his/her supervisor, the lost or theft of any perimeter fencing gate key.

 

4.4              When an employee is transferred or separated from employment, he/she will turn in the perimeter gate key with other airport issued equipment.

 

4.5              Employees will unlock gates only in emergency situations such as: aircraft crashes, natural disasters, when answering calls for service or when directed to do so by a police supervisor.  AT NO TIME WILL AN EMPLOYEE UNLOCK A GATE AND LEAVE IT UNATTENDED.

 

4.6              Employees opening or stationed at any open gate will ensure that only authorized persons enter the gate.  The employee will contact a police supervisor should there be any question as to a person’s authorization to enter.
