Airport Communications Center Video and Audio Recordings

1.                PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this Section Command Memorandum is to establish a procedure for reviewing and/or copying video or audiotapes recorded by the Airport Communications Center.

 

2.                POLICY

 

It is the policy of the Atlanta Police Department Airport Section to cooperate with all agencies for the safe and expeditious movement of the traveler and non-traveler, through the airport.  Currently, there are numerous video cameras located at the airport to monitor these movements.  Some of these cameras are viewed and recorded by the Atlanta Police Department Airport Section in the Communication Center.  In addition, the Airport Communications Center records all radio transmissions and 911telephone conversations.

 

3.                RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1              It is the responsibility of the Watch Supervisors to insure that this Section Command Memorandum is strictly adhered to.

 

3.2              It is the responsibility of all communication dispatchers to maintain the security of the video and audio recording center.

 

3.3              It is the responsibility of the specialized unit commander to ensure that the audio recording tapes are exchanged prior to reaching 95% storage capacity.   

 

4.                ACTION

 

4.1              Archived audio tape recordings are stored in a secured location by the Administrative Staff.  The archived audiotapes are maintained for one year and then recorded over.

 

4.2              Video tape recordings are stored in a tape jukebox in the video recording center and may be removed only by an authorized service technician.  The video tape recordings are maintained for 28 days and then recorded over.

 

4.3              Anyone wishing to review or copy an audio or videotape must make a request, in writing, to the Airport Police Section Commander.

 

5.                DEFINITION

 

                  Recording Center: the room located next to the airport communications center where the Wordnet Audio Recorder and all audio recording equipment are located.
